This week’s maker is Herin Hong from Mollum Vellum. Herin designs and creates the entire Mollum Vellum collection by hand. She learnt her Japanese leathercraft techniques from a former leather bag designer in Seoul and is experimenting with her own style in her home city of London. (Mollum Vellum is derived from Latin, meaning ‘soft calfskin’.)

is a minimalist leather goods brand set up by leather craftsperson, Herin Hong. Inspired by classic Japanese culture, Herin has been developing collections of modern leather bags and small leather goods. She experiments with materials and the crafting process and enjoys making simple and clean designs.
Herin applies a variety of traditional leathercraft techniques such as Japanese hand-cutting, hand-stitching (e.g., saddle/cross stitching), burnishing and hand-painting leather pieces. Due to the nature of handcrafting process, most collections are limited edition and each product has been individually hand-made.
