We will begin with a little introduction about needle felting and the different wools, tools and techniques we will be using in the workshop.

Everything will be ready at the class for you to start felting. If you have an idea of a particular animal you’d like to make it’s helpful to print off a couple of photos to have next to you! If not there will be lots of inspiration there. We will be using a variety of beautiful British Wools and learning some tricks to make cute little creatures.

This class is perfect for beginners and those who have never tried felting before! We will be making felt animals which you can turn into either Christmas decorations or a lovely badge.

Take your skills from this workshop and make your own beautiful needle felted Christmas gifts! You get to keep whatever you make too of course.

You’ll be provided with a how to needle felt zine which you can take away with you to refresh your memory. There will be a chance to purchase additional materials at the end so you can keep felting.

Light refreshments provided.

What happens when we turn the purpose of a fashion advertising image into a more deep and meaningful message? During the event we will explore the infinite possibilities in doodling over a magazine page using eye catchy decorations, but we will not stop at it.

The idea is to give to the picture a new message and switching it into a fun, humorous or more personal and powerful protest message.
The artist Naomi Vona will lead the workshop offering guidance and knowledge of her processes and techniques for manipulating images.
All materials provided, but we encourage you to bring your own magazines to customise as well.

Meet the Maker – Benstede & Cirger

Maker: Ceri Fox /  From: London /  Craft: Candle Maker
Website: benstede-cirger.com

I’m Ceri Fox creator of Benstede & Cirger, a range of hand-poured scented candles with fragrances inspired by stories from the past. I make each candle myself in my home Hackney using soy wax and essential oils. I hand blend the fragrances.

I took inspiration from my interest in history and visits to historic houses – many of whom use fragrance to create a sensory experience to bring their stories to life.

The company name references the history of candle making. In 1291 John de Benstede became the first recorded wax chandler apprentice. His master? John le Cirger.

Hi, I’m Mia. I make jewellery inspired by my ‘happy places’, creating wearable mini sculptures, that can take your mind away to somewhere tranquil, even in the bustling city!

My first collection, Flotsam and Jetsam, is inspired by the mystery of the sea, the texture of the pieces evoking memories of watching waves roll onto the shore on a peaceful day.

I also undertake commissions for unique gifts (to yourself or for a loved one!).

Some of my other happy places are museums, botanical gardens, historical buildings, being lost in a book, and finding treasures in second hand shops.
